Hello? Is Anybody Using Mastodon?

  • 1 min read

The Medium community experience is lagging behind or already dead.

Medium kicked off 2023 with a big bang!

Tony Stubblebine announced a community experience.

I informed you that Medium launched a Maston instance called me.dm for which you could apply.

The account wanted to “boost smart information and ideas, and also to help find and recommend interesting accounts.”

I applied but never got accepted into me.dm.

Since I knew something like this could happen because Medium had to accept hundreds of thousands of writers, I joined via another server.

What’s a community experience?

Cohort-based online courses and paid communities are on the rise.

Why?

People are longing for a deeper connection and to meet other like-minded people.

A moderated community can enrich the lives of its members.

What about Medium?

They stopped writing and boosting stories on Medium.

I can’t see any added value or great discussion.

The elephant in the room:

Is Me.dm already dead?
