How To Find Joy In Your Reflection This Summer

  • 3 min read

You go rock that bikini!

When was the last time you felt that pure joy of being alive and feeling beautiful?

As far as I’m concerned, It’s been a while.

When I realized this a few weeks back, it really saddened me.

Since then, I remember this beautiful story that I want to tell you today, and I try to remember to enjoy my reflection.

Recently, I went shopping with my baby boy and his grandma.

In the kid’s section, I saw another mom with her daughter.

The pretty little girl with blonde hair was about 6 to 7 years old, I guess.

Her mom told her to pick out whichever bikini or bathing suit she wanted.

The girl chose a fabulous yellow bikini with a bright pink stripe.

The little girl grabbed it, threw it on, ran to the mirror and exclaimed:

Look, Mommy!

I watched her as she turned to look at her own reflection.

It struck me how it had been ages since I felt that way about my reflection.

That pure joy of being alive and feeling beautiful.

Since then, I recall that little pretty girl in the store.

Key Message: In the mirror, you see all the things you hate about yourself.

If you struggle with your rolls which stop you from wearing a bikini this summer, try to remind yourself to find joy in your reflection.

To revel in the things that make you uniquely beautiful.

PS: This story is inspired by my student Patricia Ross. She shared an honest and unique article about her aging body — from caring how it looks to caring more about how it functions.
