How To Turn Your Writing Dreams Into Reality

  • 3 min read

Motivation is an illusion

A few weeks ago I joined the knowledge-sharing platform Quora. I’ve started following questions about writing, blogging, succeeding online in general and on Medium in particular.

I realized, one of the most frequent questions is:

How do I stay motivated (when I’m not succeeding yet)?

It’s pretty hard…

  • Not seeing the financial rewards YET.
  • Not getting tons of comments YET.
  • Not having readers interacting with your posts YET.

As far as I’m concerned, I started my writing journey at the end of December 2020 with 147 views and $0.17.

Over the past 7+ months, I’ve written around 175 articles on Medium and accumulated more than 18k views on my work.

I became one of Medium’s Top 2,000 writers and 9x Top Writer in various categories from ‘Writing’ and ‘Social Media’ to ‘Parenting’ and ‘Feminism’. Moreover, I received the cash bonus 4x in a row.

But if succeeding was easy, we’d all be $$$$ billionaires.

There really is no secret other than asking yourself WHAT you want, HOW MUCH you want it, and HOW you can make it.

Motivation is an illusion. You either want something and do whatever it takes or you don’t want it strongly enough.

Consistency is hard. It sucks. It’s a long journey. If you know what you want it's worth it. Get clear on your vision.

Why do you write online?

  • Do you want to make money with your side hustle?
  • Do you want to leave your 9–5 job?
  • Do you want to make an impact?
  • Do you want to write a book one day?
  • Do you want to share your expertise?
  • Do you want to become an expert in your niche?
  • Do you want to turn your expertise into a full-time income?

It’s your online business. It’s your personal brand. Only you know the WHY behind your business.

I have a crystal clear vision of what I want and why I write online.

For me, it’s all about freedom. Freedom of time, thoughts, and space. That’s why my husband and I decided to move to a German island in order to start our nomadic life this autumn.

I know it’s possible to build another reality despite the 9–5 job. There are so many others who made it.

Why shouldn’t you be able to make it?

Open a new page and write a post.

Being frustrated is just part of your writing journey.

Just write & turn your dreams into reality.

😃 In case you have any questions about writing on Medium, building a writing habit or becoming a full-time writer, drop me a line in the comments and I’d love to answer your burning questions.
