When I thought of “rest,” I envisioned more extended periods, not mere seconds.

Let’s talk about the “6-Day Energy Challenge” that the New York Times rolled out at the beginning of 2024.

They promised to equip us with “evidence-based tips and inspiration to stay energized throughout the day.”

Their secret weapon?

Microbreaks — short pauses lasting under five minutes — scattered throughout your day to maintain vitality.

Yes, you heard me right, even just 10 seconds of rest can help you rest and improve your ability to learn.

When I thought of “rest,” I envisioned more extended periods, not mere seconds.

The idea that five-minute microbreaks can be restorative at first sounded a bit bewildering to me in a world that perpetuates the relentless pursuit of productivity…but it works — even with energy-sapping elements in my life that I can’t control — a baby girl, a toddler, a monster-in-law…

The challenge reminded me that’s it okay to to reject the never-ending hustle… at least for a few seconds 😀

So remember that it’s okay to embrace those micro-moments of rest in 2024.

Finding balance and honoring your innate need for rest and connection is a beautiful journey toward being fully yourself.

Have you tried it or plan to take part in the “6-Day Energy Challenge”?
