Is This The End For Food Bloggers?

  • 2 min read

Most food bloggers open their recipes with 3,000 words of memoir and goldfish don’t want and need this.

What do you do when you read anything online?

You scan.

With hungry, impatient eyes.

And you’re not alone.

You’re in good company.

🐠 Your audience is a bunch of goldfish.

Please don’t take this personally.

We’re all goldfish.

When it comes to reading stuff online, we all have almost ZERO attention spans.

However, most food bloggers open their recipes with 3,000 words of memoir.

I love the fact that they want to make their recipes more personal, but it feels formulaic.

“Food is the centerpiece of so many interesting stories worth telling. The recipe-specific tales are much more memorable than your five-paragraph personal essay (…)”, April Glaser from SLATE once said.

On Google and Bing, you will soon get short and sweet recipe instructions from a chatbot.

This functionality will be built into browsers.

🐠I wonder where home cooks will go in the future. What d’you think?
