“In 2023, Medium is getting a lot harder!”

I hear you.

If you’ve been following Medium’s new CEO Tony Stubblebine you know that he wants to raise the quality bar on Medium.

Especially if you share “advice”, Medium will be more suspicious and also wants its reader to be suspicious.

In autumn 2022, Stubblebine said:

“When you are hearing advice, does the advice giver know anything about what they are talking about?”

Of course, you can be an expert in your own experience, but what Tony is looking for are people with first-hand experience and expertise. Real-life Subject matter experts.

Predictions for Medium in 2023 in a nutshell:

  • Either you verify your expertise moving forward and raise your game, or your words will die hard.
  • Real experts that provide real value will win.
  • False experts will lose.

Doubts from fellow writers:

The thing I heard over and over again in 2022 when I shared this news was:

  • “It’s already been written about”
  • “I don’t know what I’m talking about”

I’m thankful for my followers expressing those doubts so I can address them today.

To be honest, these are doubts I have also had!

In October 2022, I shared a fun fact about my writing on Medium:

  • “I’ve never ever published a story with Top Publication “Better Marketing” although I’m an expert.”

There are millions of stories about marketing on Medium. Doubts were holding me back.

I want to encourage you to not get disheartened!

If you want to earn (more) money on Medium in 2023 you need to adapt and really show your expertise (as one pillar of your success).

Rejections aren’t killing you!

When I submitted my first piece, Better Marketing rejected it (and then my story went viral elsewhere… haha).

I learned from it and my next submission was accepted!

In November 2022, my first marketing-related story was published in Better Marketing.

To date, I’ve published 6 stories with Tony Stubblebine’s publication!
