Do you agree?
The other day, a fellow Medium writer told me that he’d love to see the read time go.
“Wait what? Why?”, I asked him.
He told me that he felt pressured to write more short posts of less than 3 minutes.
He received feedback from his followers that his stories, usually around 6 to 8 minutes, were too long.
They told him that even if the title looks promising, they will avoid reading a story of more than 5 minutes.
To not turn off potentially interested readers, he suggested removing the read time altogether.
What exactly is the read time?
The read time is automatically calculated when you write a post. It’s based on the word count, number of images, videos, gifs, and other embedded content.
I read long as well as short posts — it really depends on the topic.
