These notifications are hard to resist, aren’t they?
Every time you receive a notification on Medium it could mean a new social opportunity.
Once you answer the little green bubble signaling a new notification, it results in a hit of dopamine.
(…) Immediately gratifying and hugely addictive.
The same dopamine that recharges our addictive compulsion. Similar to people who have addictions to crack.

What to do about it?
- stick a post-it-note on your screen to hide your notifications
- use my favorite distraction-free app
- be mindful
- set a timer for specific tasks, e.g. reading or writing a post
- try to check your stats and notifications once per day
