Meet Elon Musk’s Chinese Twin Brother

  • 3 min read

There’s a crazy resemblance that makes netizens and Elon Musk speculate: deepfake or a doppelganger?

Elon Musk knows how to create online buzz.

Did you know that the richest man in the world has a twin brother?

I didn’t either.

The face of Yilong Ma looks exactly like Elon Musk’s…only a bit younger…

…only when he opens his mouth…you know the difference.🤣

Musk’s twin brother first appeared on TikTok in December 2021.

Based on his popular TikTok videos, the real Musk speculated he might be partly Chinese.

Many Chinese have expressed their awe over the crazy resemblance on social media:

“I really think Yilong Musk is Elon Musk’s lost brother”, a visitor of Weibo posted.

So it’s no surprise that a few months ago, the real Musk expressed his desire to meet his Chinese twin brother called Yilong Ma.

“I’d like to meet this guy (if he is real). Hard to tell with deepfakes these days.”

So, who or what is he… really?

Is he a deepfake?

A lot of people have remained skeptical about the Chinese Musk and wondered:

“Does he use an AI face swap to replace his own face with Musks?”

A deepfake is a form of Artificial Intelligence (AI) that replaces the likeliness of a person with another to create fake videos.

One thing that speaks against it is that he also turns sideways and shows his face from the side.

In an article by PCMag I read that if you want to spot a real-time deepfake you have to tell the person to turn sideways.

Is he a doppelganger?

Have you ever found yourself fantasizing about doing a temporary life-swap with your twin and doppelganger?

Although it’s extremely unlikely, chances are you have a lookalike out there in the world.

Francois Brunelle has photographed more than 200 pairs of doppelgangers for his I’m Not a Look-Alike project.

One of the twins he portrayed was Neil Douglas.

He said:

“Well I’m 5’7 and he’s 6’3… so it’s mainly in the face”

Lavinia Paternoster, a geneticist at the University of Bristol, added in an interview with BBC:

“It is entirely possible for two people with similar facial features to have DNA that is no more similar than that of two random people.”

A, B, or C? What do you think about Elon Musk’s Chinese twin brother?

A — It’s obvious. He’s a deepfake.

B — It’s obvious. It’s Elon Musk’s twin brother.

C — Now Elon Musk can temporarily life-swap with his twin take a break and doppelganger Yilong Musk can show up on Zoom calls.🤣

One thing is for sure: We won’t know until both finally meet in person.
