New Writers, 4 Powerful Medium Publications That Help You Gain 100 Followers Fast

… and get paid without the follow-unfollow game.

You’ve decided to write on Medium. That’s awesome. Congratulations!

Now you need to make a start. In order to join the Medium Partner Program and get paid for your engaging stories, you first need 100 followers.

But where to start?

Some think it’s playing the common follow-unfollow game. Meaning: Follow 100 people and maybe 30 will follow you back. Then unfollow them. Keep repeating until you reach your desired number of followers.

This isn’t a good idea, new writers.

A few months ago, Ev Williams has announced to

(a)ccurately reflect(ing) your unfollow actions. (…)

Meaning, if Medium feels played, you’re done.

As in any serious business, it’s better to do the work and… write.

Unfortunately, as new writer Drashti Shroff has said:

…some new writers, including myself, get lost in the Medium space — in the sense that we are not already aware about which publications to follow, which pubs to join as writer and most importantly which pubs exist!

This article has got you covered, new writers

One way to build an audience of 100 followers is to get published in a Medium publication. Then your stories are shared with the pub’s subscribers.

Within the last past few weeks, many new writers reached out to me via email and asked me to help them to get their first 100 followers.

I feel you, new writers.

Writing on Medium can be frustrating when you’re a newbie.

You don’t know where to start. Unfortunately, there’s no list of publications that welcome new writers.

Since it’s always easier when someone has gone before you, in this article, I’ll be covering the top four publications for beginners.

These four publications really helped me gain traction on this platform when I’ve started my writing journey around one year ago.

So, no need to worry and to think about the follow-unfollow game again.

Final Takeaways

It can be a great confidence boost to get a story accepted in a pub, watch your numbers tick, and build your own follower base of 100+ fast.

As far as I’m concerned, I started my writing journey with 147 views and $0.17.

Within the last past months, I got 40k+ views and my earnings increased to around $700 — primarily thanks to these pubs which helped me gain traction at the beginning of my journey and some still do.

Pro tip: If you have a self-published story you want to get published, I recommend ILLUMINATION. They accept previously self-published stories.

I recently showed new writer John Couper how to do it in my publication for new writers called Online Writing 101.

The scariest moment is always just before you start.
