Says Medium’s new CEO
Tony Stubblebine shared in the comments section:
“There is a category of beginner writer who needs to hear that ASAP because they are starting to make plans to make a living here. That won’t be possible”
Tony is referring to the changes in distribution.
Medium is an open platform.
You can write about whatever you want, BUT your stories aren’t open for distribution BEYOND your following.
This means if Medium’s machine learning algorithms or human curators don’t find your story valuable, it will only be shown to your followers.
The harsh truth:
Only 1% of your followers will see YOU in their feed because they are following a lot of people.
The good news is:
If you meet the new “quality bar” and write a valuable story that fits, Medium will reward you higher.
