No One Reads Your Stories? Maybe You Don’t Ask Enough Questions

  • 2 min read

Questions hijack your readers’ brains.

What color are your eyes?

Take a moment to think.

You probably stopped to picture your eyes before answering, right?

In that quick moment, I got your attention with a simple question that you read long after I wrote it.

Questions hijack your readers’ brains

That’s called “instinctive elaboration”.

In “The Science of Selling” David Hoffeld states:

“When a question is posed, it takes over the brain’s thought process. And when your brain is thinking about the answer to a question, it can’t contemplate anything else.”

Questions are powerful.

Too often we fall into the trap of talking at our readers instead of engaging them.

Questions are a big part of how we talk to each other, so we might not realize how powerful they are.

But science shows that asking questions is a good way to connect with people and have more influence.

That’s really helpful.

Don’t you think?
