Numbing Your Feelings With Food? This Mental Exercise Can Help You

My friend’s therapist recommends a major mental shift.

A few days ago, a mom-friend told me:

Sometimes I just want to crawl back into bed.

I just want to eat a pint of vanilla ice cream…

Emotional stress eating has been a long-term struggle for her.

Now with kids in the house, it became even worse.

She’s dealing with a ton of responsibilities 24–7.

So she ended up reverting back to her old ways of using food as an escape from her emotions.

Her therapist gave this smart advice:

Thoughts create feelings.

Feelings create actions.

Actions create results.

With this in mind, you can learn how to deal with thoughts that don’t serve you.

When a certain feeling comes up and you’re down on yourself, it all comes from a thought.

Remind yourself:

This feeling is not going to kill you!

You can feel it in your body.

It will stay with you for a while but then it will pass.

Now, YOU can choose a different and more positive thought that will create a different and more positive feeling.

I wanted to share this tip with you and hope it will help you, too.

Give yourself some grace.
