The Economics Of Medium’s Offering To Writers Needs To Be Improved

  • 1 min read

Medium’s new CEO agrees with this.

Medium calculates your earnings with an arcane formula.

It’s related to how much time paying (!) members spend reading each writer in relation to other writers in the Medium Partner Program.

The problem?

We are more in competition with each other than ever. Each new writer that comes in is splitting the same pie with us.

There’s less money to go around. That’s not fair.

Improvement ahead

In a recent interview, Medium’s new CEO said that the economics of Medium’s offering to writers needs to be improved.

Especially, writers who convert readers into paying members.

Tony says that generated subscriptions need to be better compensated!

“The issue right now is that we’re not paying enough for the subscribers you bring in yourself…”

It’s around $2 per month.

What would be a fair amount?
