Is it people reading your posts from Medium internal links or external links?

On Quora, I got asked this question recently.

Here’s my short and sweet answer for you:

Medium hasn’t revealed too much about its algorithm.

What we do know is that they pay us for traffic from their own paying subscribers.

You get paid based on the ‘average reading time’ in regard to the internal views of an article.

Average reading time = the average amount of time all paying readers (who have looked at your post) spent actively reading your story

👉 The more minutes (paying) members actively spend reading your article, the more money you’ll earn.

It’s worthwhile to share your stories with friend links via social media to amplify your reach — so both members, as well as people without subscriptions, can read your post.

Nevertheless, you won’t get paid for external views.
