When TikTok Gets Banned, Lemon8 Comes Next

  • 1 min read

Pinterest meets Instagram.

TikTok has taken the world by storm.

Now many creators think it’s game over for TikTok.

Why?

TikTok isn’t a social media company based in the U.S.

It’s based in China. Byte Dance owns it.

“Let me state this unequivocally: ByteDance is not an agent of China or any other country,” TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew testified before Congress.

However, national security concerns and the bad influence on underage users could lead to a TikTok ban.

What is TikTok doing?

Byte Dance now officially launched Lemon8. It’s an app from 2020 that was under the radar.

It has 4.25 million monthly active users and ranked №9 on the App Store’s Top Apps chart.

Creators on TikTok are promoting Lemon8 with statements such as “like Instagram and Pinterest had a baby” or “Pinterest meets Instagram”.

Is Lemon8 TikTok’s backup plan?

What do you think about TikTok and its looming ban?
