  • 3 min read

An 80-years-old recipe has taken over TikTok and makes your caviar wishes come true

Recently, I scrolled through TikTok for a piece about Medium writer and TikTok star Ella Heart.

Then…suddenly…a colorful phenomenal-looking dish popped up.

Somewhere between a salad and a salsa.

Yummy! I thought.

This dish is trending this past month.

It’s the so-called Cowboy Caviar.

In fact, the hashtag #CowboyCaviar has more than 38.5 million views on TikTok.

What’s old is new again!

The recipe of the Texas caviar from the 1940s has seen a resurgence.

Social media feeds all around the internet are filling up with this food trend.

Famous food bloggers have hopped on the new food trend and given it their own spin.

Plus, thousands of home cooks are trying their hands at it.

In fact, this no-frills dish is easy to make and it’s colorful, crunchy, and is soooo fresh!

I’m absolutely here for it and I love trying an 80-year-old recipe!

Plus, I love utilizing Texan products!

By the way, the dish got its name due to the black-eyed peas’ resemblance to caviar.🤣

Bria Lemirande’s Cowboy Caviar:

1 red bell pepper

1 orange bell pepper

1 yellow bell pepper

1 green bell pepper

2 jalapeños

3/4 red onion

1 mango

2 cups sweet corn

6 ounces feta cheese

1 can sliced black olives

2 cans black beans, rinsed

1 can pinto beans, rinsed

2 avocados

Dressing:

Juice of 3 limes

1/2 cup olive oil

1/4 cup white wine vinegar

3 to 4 tablespoons taco seasoning (optional)

2 to 4 tablespoons spicy honey

3 tablespoons sugar, or to taste

Salt and pepper to taste

That’s the kind of caviar I like. This “caviar” is naturally gluten-free and packed with protein.

Bria’s Top Tip

“Chop everything finely. The best way to enjoy a bite of cowboy caviar is by getting all the ingredients on a chip together. So chopping them finely ensures you get a little taste of everything together.”

Yummy!

I’m curious. Has my article inspired you to give this a go or is there another food trend you’re aware of?
